Guidolin: "Mariga Is An Ideal Midfielder. He Reminds Me Of Sissoko"

Posted on February 3, 2010 at 4:41 AM

The former coach of the Kenyan: "He clearly still needs to improve a lot, especially from the tactical point of view and Mourinho is an ideal coach to make him grow."

Francesco Guidolin can only sing the praises for the player: "In two and a half years, we have managed to increase his value, it was a great success for the team, although we regret to give him up because he is very strong.  Unfortunately, nowadays, it is difficult to retain young players chased by big clubs.  He is now happy and we give him compliments.  We must understand that a few years ago he was playing in Sweden and had hoped in the Premier League, and Inter just can't deny him."

Guidolin then discusses the characteristics of Mariga.  "He has ideal characteristics for the modern game.  He is powerful, exuberant, with physical strength, quality and dynamic.  He copes well both offensively and defensively.  He can steal balls and immediately can start the action.  Obviously he still needs to improve a lot, especially form the tactical point of view, and Mourinho is an ideal coach for him to grow.  I know that many people have drawn comparisons to Essien and Obi Mikel and he certainly has the characteristics of the two Chelsea players.  But to me he looks more like a midfielder who militates in our league, namely Juventus' Sissoko...  He can play in a midfield of three like at Inter either on the sides or in the middle but if he wants to play there he must grow."

I have to disagree. I'd love to have a Sissoko-type player at Inter. Against EPL teams like Chelsea and ManU you need a guy who is a beast in the midfield (as long as he isn't "The Beast") to compete with those physical teams. Inter is always chided for being too physical in Serie A but once they enter into European competition they seemed to get shoved off the ball. Currently Inter isn't as good at attacking as a team like Barca or as physical as Chelsea so they need to find their personality and hopefully a player like Mariga can help them do that.

......"He reminds me of Sissoko".......Most unfortunate.

Let's hope he's better than that. If he is equivalent to Sissoko, WTF are Inter doing buying a player like that? Sissoko is give away waiting to happen. There are plenty of guys who are strong and can run fast. I want a guy who will win the ball and won't give it away.
