Di Marzio: "The Alternative To Mascherano Has Always Been Palombo"

Posted on July 2, 2010 at 8:31 PM

According to Gianluca di Marzio, the real alternative of Javier Mascherano is Angelo Palombo of Sampdoria.  "The new rule on non-EU players does not apply on Mascherano, who has an Italian passport, so the negotiations can proceed smoothly.  However, if there were any problems, Inter will work seriously to get Palombo."

So...we have more goalkeepers than attackers, let`s move on.
Cambiasso,Motta,Mascherano - DM (Zanetti the same iff he`s not playing as a LB/RB)
Stankovic,Muntari - CM (same as Khrin and Mariga, who played in total 5 matches ? I don`t know maybe less)
and Sneijder - AM

And here I go again` ... we don`t have any designated RM/LM (just in case) and we need a nother AM & CM

Mascherano and Cambiasso will be Benitez's top two choices that is for sure but we have 6 trophies to play for next year so there is nothing wrong with a little bit of depth in our squad. Motta will have his chance to play that I can guarantee you that.

Mascherano and Cambiasso are defensive minded players I agree even though I think Cambiasso's passing is somewhat underrated. But it will depend on Benitez, Branca and his team to fix it with more signings who knows... I look at it this way, with Cuchu and Masche and with out back four it will be incredibly tough to score on us and not only that we have one of the best playmakers if not THE best playmaker in the world in Sneijder so...

I see no reason for us to have 2 defensive midfielders . Cambiasso and Mascherano are 2 ball winners and have no creativity and that was our problem recent years. Motta, yeah he is a defensive midfielder but he is like Xabi alonso in real madrid .
How would Motta fit in if Benitez want to play Masherano ? We already have to many defensive midfielders...

In terms of holding midfielders on the team, Motta is still up there behind Cambiasso. If we get Mascherano, then he would be a third option. Don't forget that last season, he played a few games in Sneijder's role so Benitez will find a way to fit him in.
